Best SEO Practices to Optimize Your Blog

Blogging is still one of the most useful ways to obtain information. But getting readers and search engines to find and get the best from your blog takes hard work and effort.

If you want to get more traffic to your blog and website, you need to start thinking about utilizing best SEO practices.

SEO optimizes your chances of being found by people looking for your content. It's the technique of making sure that when people search for something on Google or other search engines, they'll find your content ranking at the top.

That's where blogging comes in: if you're going to write blog posts, its important to make sure that they benefit both users and crawlers. Blogging and SEO go hand in hand, in order to have the best results at being found and becoming an authoritative website in your niche. Improve your website’s page authority with SEO best practices.

Here are 7 steps to basic SEO optimization of your blog.

Step 1 - What is SEO?

The first step in incorporating SEO into your blog is understanding what it is, and then how it works so that you can apply it.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It's the process of optimizing your blog so that it appears higher in organic search results on Google and other search engines SERPs. Organic search results are the opposite of paid results. SERPs stands for Search Engine Results Pages. Organic search results can be better achieved through proper SEO techniques.

SEO best practices can use white hat or black hat techniques, eveh grey hat. White hat techniques employ best practices to rank higher using guidelines set by search engines like Google and Bing. Black hat uses unapproved ways such as excessive use of keywords (keyword stuffing) or employing techniques that lure people to a site for a specific keyword and then redirecting them to another site entirely. Black hat techniques can be penalized heavily by search engines. We will be discussing the use of white hat techniques or SEO best practices here.

There are two main types of SEO: On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO. On-page refers to things you can do on your own website such as writing good content, while off-page refers to things that have nothing directly related to your website but still affect its ranking in search engines like getting quality backlinks and page loading speed. Content SEO is what this blog is covering for on page SEO. By applying these simple principles, you can write better search engine and user friendly content.

You can always search for individual practices for Google and other search engines who post specific guidelines and major algorithm changes along with how to comply. The algorithms are constantly changing so you have to keep abreast of any changes and continue to use best practices standards.

Step 2 - keyword research

Keyword research is done to find the keywords that people are searching for. You want to use these particular keywords rather than words you personally choose so that you can rank higher in search results. You want to use words that people are currently searching for. Search for both short and long tail keywords to incorporate. Don’t try to compete with the largest corporations or in a sea of too many common keywords because your ranking could potentially be lower. Choose your keywords wisely.

● Keyword research is the first step to SEO.

● You can do keyword research with tools like Ahrefs and SEMrush, but you should also use Google's Keyword Planner tool.

● Long tail keywords are more specific and targeted than broad keywords, so they're easier to rank for. You may be able to rank better with some long tail keywords when competition for that keyword is too difficult to rank high enough for.

● Both short and long tail keywords can be added into your content strategy. While your short tell keyword may be "blog" , your long tail keyword may be "blogs that explain SEO". Long tail keywords simply incorporate more details.

● Your blog may end up ranking for many keywords when keywords are applied properly.

Long tail keywords are often used in the body of your content, too. You can include them in your title and meta description, but also use them in your subheadings and paragraphs. Keyword use should be naturally added. Too many keywords or improperly placed keywords can violate the Google spam policy. Try incorporating semantics and synonyms to avoid overuse. You want to keep it simple and relevant while making quality content for your blog while incorporating the actual words that people are searching for. Remember to use synonyms to avoid keyword stuffing and repetition. As machine learning has advanced, search engines can now understand word association of the natural human language. Keep in mind that you're writing for human readers and not just robots.

Step 3 - Create an SEO title.

As you write your blog posts, make sure that you use the keywords you've researched and that they are naturally included in your title. You should also take time to craft a title for each of your blog posts that lets users know right away what they can expect to read about in your post. Your titles should be as specific as possible so that search engines also know what each post is about when it comes up in search results.

In addition to including keywords in the body of a post and its title, create an SEO description (also known as meta description) for each piece of content on your site by including more detailed information about what readers can expect from reading this blog. This will help search engine crawlers understand what each page is about so that it can better index your blog specifically towards those topics being discussed on said page(s).

Step 4 - Create a blog post.

● Keep your paragraphs short and make sure they have a topic sentence and a summary statement.

● Include your keyword in the first paragraph of your post: This will help search engines identify your article as relevant to that search term, which can boost its ranking on the SERPs (search engine results pages).

● Organize paragraph structure and use bullets when necessary: Paragraphs are easier for readers to digest than one long thick block of text, so break up long sections into smaller paragraphs by using subheadings or bulleted lists where appropriate. This makes it easier for them to scan through each section until they find what they're looking for and makes it easier for search engine crawlers as well.

● Optimize paragraphs for SEO quality content: Write quality content that uses keywords naturally without stuffing them into sentences. Also incorporate synonyms since its less repetitive. Add long-tail keywords into the body of your article. Researching and using long-tail keywords is an effective SEO strategy because it helps you target specific audiences with unique needs rather than trying to reach everyone with just one keyword phrase. It could lead some visitors away due to lack of relevance to their search. You want your visitors to find what they are seeking in one place so be descriptive and exhaustive in the information that you provide.

● Write quality, well researched content. Fact check your blog for accuracy. Correct punctuation and grammar errors and make sure that your blog is very well written. Quality information is a key step to SEO. Optimizing poorly written content defeats the entire purpose of SEO. Free tools like Grammerly can help.

Stepping 5 - Optimizing your images

● Optimize your images. The alt tags on your blog posts are an important part of SEO, but they're also a great way to improve the user experience. Alt tags are the text descriptions that accompany images on the web, so they need to be relevant and descriptive. If you're using stock photos or screenshots from or another source make sure that they include an accurate description of what's going on in that image.

● Crawlers and visually impaired users can identify your images using the alt tags that you label them with. This supports search engine and user friendly content.

● Use image optimization tools like TinyPNG and JPEGmini when editing pictures so they're as small as possible without losing quality; this will help reduce bounce rate by improving load times for visitors who don't have fast internet connections. If users have to wait too long to load a page they may just simply hit the back button and Google will notice it.

Step 6 - Internal Linking

Internal linking is an important part of SEO and content marketing. It helps search engines understand your site better, which in turn helps them display relevant content to users.

Internal links are hyperlinks that point to a different page on your own website or blog or on the blog itself, rather than linking to another website. This can be done using anchor text (the words used in the link) or naked URLs (the actual address of a web page).

You can use internal linking for several purposes:

● To make sure all pages on your site are linked together so people can easily navigate through it without having to click through multiple pages before finding what they're looking for;

● To help Google understand how closely related different pages are by pointing out when one page has similar content as another;

● To direct readers from one piece of content onto another piece of related material - this works especially well if both pieces have been written by different authors. It can also work if that page provides more details.

● To display links on longer blogs such as a contents list for easier browsing to find what users need on the page more quickly.

Step 7 - Share the content on social media.

Once you have published your blog post, it's time to share it on social media. You can do this by creating an image or video of your post and uploading it to Instagram or Snapchat, or sharing the link on Facebook and Twitter with a catchy caption.

You should also include hashtags related to the topic of your article in order for people who search for these terms on Google (or other search engines) to find your content easily. For example, if I wrote an article about SEO, I would use hashtags such as #SEO, #SEOtipsforbeginners etc., so that people searching for these terms will see my content first when they go through their feed.

The next step would be linking back from all social media accounts. Facebook page/accounts; Instagram account/profiles; Twitter profile/accounts; LinkedIn Company Page should link to your main website or blogsite where they can read more information about your blogs as well as find links back into any other relevant blogs you've written previously.

Conclusion

Blogging is more successful when you incorporate well written content with SEO techniques. By ranking higher in SERPs you are more likely to be found by readers. Creating content that people actually want to read helps to attract more traffic from search engines and other sources. It's important to remember that there are no shortcuts when it comes to SEO. You need patience, practice, and dedication if you want to see good results.
